Abstract
Low birth weight (LBW) is a baby with a birth weight of less than 2500 grams. According to a 2015 World Health Organization (WHO) report, neonatal deaths accounted for 45% of deaths under five years in 2015. The main causes of neonatal deaths in 2015 were one of them is the birth complications of LBW 16%. According to South Sumatra Health Office data, the incidence of low birth weight babies (LBW) in 2014 was 319 per 1,000 live births and in 2015 it was 305 per 1,000 live births. And in 2016 as many as 279 per 1,000 live births. Based on data obtained from the Muhammadiyah Hospital in Palembang, the incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW), in 2017 was 65 LBW cases from 1340 babies born and in 2018 it was 45 LBW cases out of 1047 babies born, whereas in 2019 it was 208 LBW cases of 1148 babies born. This study aims to determine the relationship of parity and maternal age to the incidence of LBW at the Muhammadiyah Hospital in Palembang in 2021. The design of this study was an analytic survey with a cross sectional approach in which the variables studied included parity and maternal age. The population of this study was all women giving birth at the Muhammadiyah Hospital in Palembang in 2021, totaling (1120) people with a large sample of research (295) taken by the systematic Random Samplin method, the research instrument was a check list. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately. The results of this study showed that (74) mothers found LBW incidence (41.9%), less than the incidence of LBW (58.1%). High risk parity level (68.4%) More than the low risk parity level (13.9%) Age level with high risk (62.1%) more than the low risk age level (28.9%) ). Chi-Square test statistics comparing p value with significance level α = 0.05 shows that there is a relationship between maternal parity p value (0,000) and maternal age p value (0.010) with LBW occurrence at Muhammadiyah Hospital Palembang in 2021. From the results of this study can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between parity and maternal age with the incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW).
