THE RELATION KNOWLEDGE OF MOTHER ON VITAMIN A CONSUMPTION TO A POSTNATAL WOMAN AT BPM YUSIDA EDWARD IN 2021

Abstract

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2015), through the Directory of Community Nutrition, it is stated that a postpartum mother must get 2 red vitamin A capsules. This is in line with a statement from The International Vitamin A Consultative Group (IVACG) which issued a recommendation that all postpartum women should receive 400,000 SI or two high-dose capsules of 200,000 SI. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and consumption of vitamin A during the puerperium at BPM Yusida Edward in 2021. This study used an analytical method with a cross sectional approach at BPM Yusida Edward, which was held from October to November 2021. The population in this study were all postpartum mothers. which amounted to 73 people with a sample of some postpartum mothers at BPM Yusida Edward using accidental sampling technique. Data collection by interview using questionnaires and checklists, as well as data processing with a computerized system, data were analyzed univariately and bivariately with chi-square test. The results showed that of 37 pregnant women who had good knowledge of vitamin A, 21 (85.5%) of them consumed vitamin A, while 3 (12.5%) respondents did not consume vitamin A. And of the 10 pregnant women who have less knowledge of vitamin A, 6 (46.2%) of them consume vitamin A, and 7 (53.8%) of them do not. based on the chi square test obtained p value = 0.017 < = 0.05. This shows that there is a relationship between maternal knowledge and consumption of vitamin A during the puerperium at BPM Yusida Edward Palembang in 2021. So, the hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and consumption of vitamin A during the puerperium at BPM Yusida Edward in 2021 statistically proven. Suggestions It is hoped that it can be used as information and evaluation material for health workers at the Independent Practice Midwife Yusida Edward Palembang to be able to maintain and improve the quality of services in providing services to postpartum mothers and to add counseling and counseling about the importance of consuming Vitamin A in postpartum mothers.
