Abstract

Breast Milk (ASI) is the only source of nutrition that provides benefits for rapid and healthy growth of infant brain development, nervous system, digestive maturity and immune development. The purpose of this research is the knowledge of the relationship between the frequency of breastfeeding with the weight of infants aged 0-6 months in the working area of ​​Dempo Palembang Public Health Center in 2016. The research design used is a quantitative survey survey with Cross Sectional Survey design. The population in this study were all mothers who breastfed baby age 0-6 months in the working area of ​​Dempo Palembang Public Health Center from February to September which amounted to 280 respondents. The sample in this research is mother who breastfed baby 0-6 months come at the time of research on 17 until 20 December 2016 that amounted 30 respondents. Sampling technique using accindental sampling technique. Analysis of data used is univariate analysis and bivariate analysis by using chi-square test. Based on data analysis using Chi-square statistic test showed p value (0.014) <ἀ (0.05) so it can be concluded that good breastfeeding frequency (≥10x in a day overnight) is related to infant weight in the work area of ​​Dempo Palembang Puskesmas 2016. It is expected that breastfeeding mothers are more concerned about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding to meet the nutritional needs of their infants.
