Abstract

Hematocrit is an examination to determine the ratio of erythrocytes to blood volume or erythrocyte volume in 100 ml of blood, which is set in %. The examination of hematocrit goes through several stages, namely, the stages through which various laboratory examinations include the pre-analytic stage, the analytical stage, and the post-analytic stage. errors that occur in the pre-analytic stage are the largest, which can reach 60% - 70%. This can be caused from specimens received by the laboratory that do not meet the specified requirements. Complete blood counts can be taken using a blood collection technique (phlebotomy) with the syringe and vacuum method. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in hematocrit levels in taking venous blood using the syringe and vacumtainer methods. The type of research used was cross sectional, this research was conducted at the Hematology Laboratory of STIKes Muhammadiyah Palembang. The population is 30 students of DIV TLM Study Program. The results showed that the average blood hematocrit level using the syringe method was 36.11%, while the average blood hematocrit level using the vacuum method was 38.15%. The average difference in the sample of the syringe and vacumtainer methods has an increase of 2%. Data analysis using Wilcoxon test obtained p value = 0.000. The conclusion of this study is that there is a difference in the meaning of taking blood (phlebotomy) using the syringe and vacumtainer methods.
